Nasal septum descent
INDEX
This procedure adjusts the columella (the area between the nostrils) downward to balance the tip of the nose with the columella. It is effective when the columella appears recessed in profile or front views
, or when the alar base appears relatively prominent.
Nasal columella reduction aims to lower the nasal columella to an appropriate position using materials such
as the nasal septal
cartilage and auricular
cartilage
, thereby enhancing three-dimensional contour.
This procedure is ideal for concerns such as “prominent nostrils,” “a nose tip that appears upturned,” or “a profile where the nasal bridge is not
visible, resulting in poor balance.”
Recommended for people like this
- The nasal bridge appears recessed.
- The nostrils are noticeable from the front and at an angle.
- The nostrils appear emphasized.
- I want to improve the balance between the tip and bridge of my nose.
Features of Nasal Septum Deviation at Our Clinic
Nasal columella reduction is a delicate procedure where even minor changes can significantly alter the overall impression of the nose.
At our clinic, we do not focus solely on lowering the nasal columella; instead, we prioritize achieving overall balance with the nasal tip, alar base, and nasal bridge.
We place particular emphasis on the following points.
- A natural appearance of the nasal bridge without excessive lowering
- Design considering the angle and distance from the nose tip
- Stable fixation to prevent future relapse or distortion
This aims to achieve a beautiful three-dimensional appearance of the nose from both the front and profile views.
Treatment Process
Design
Based on preoperative simulations and the patient’s ideal nasal image, we meticulously confirm
the position of the columella, the degree of lowering, and its balance with the nasal tip. Since
millimeter-level adjustments are critical, we carefully review the final design again on the day of surgery.
Anesthesia
For isolated procedures, local anesthesia may be used
. When combined with other nasal surgeries (such as tip rhinoplasty, septal extension, or columella stratification), intravenous sedation or general anesthesia is administered.
surgery
The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour (excluding combined procedures).
The incision is made inside the nasal cavity or at the base of the columella, leaving virtually no visible scarring externally.
Cartilage is carefully positioned and secured to create a natural and stable columellar line.
Treatment Details
| Treatment Time | Approximately 2 hours |
|---|---|
| Facial Cleansing and Bathing | Facial cleansing is not possible for 5 to 7 days after the procedure due to the nasal cast. Showering from the neck down is permitted. |
| Makeup | Makeup is permitted starting the day after the cast is removed and stitches are taken out. This coincides with the cast removal. |
| Risks and Side Effects | Swelling, bruising, nosebleeds, nasal congestion, scarring on the columella, decreased sensation in the nasal tip or ears, nasal deviation, inability to elevate the nasal tip, asymmetry in nasal shape, hardening of the nasal tip, scarring on the columella, sensation of a rounded nasal tip, infection, wound dehiscence, impaired blood flow. |
